The West Milford Artists Association Gallery is pleased to announce a group exhibition of works by WMAA members Jill E. Dunlop, Jennifer Leonard and Mike Rosenberg. Selected works in watercolor, mixed media and ceramic will be on display.
Jill E. Dunlop
Jill Dunlop’s watercolors are renderings of her faith in the positive and truths that life has to offer. Receiving art instruction at Schuyler Studio in Oakland with artist Ruth Schuyler, Dunlop has put forth her delicate applications to reveal the beauty that the watercolor medium holds.
“Angels In Waiting”, on watercolor on gesso-prepared paper, "Angels in Waiting" focuses on her two sisters and herself, the content is about the closeness of her family ties. Dunlop experiments with different mediums and papers and is inspired by “watching how the paint reacts to the paper and what magic might take place.”
Awarded for her watercolor paintings from St. Catherine of Bologna Patron of the Arts 2002 Show and The Autumn Lights Festival in West Milford , Dunlop strives to express her love for art. She is a member of the West Milford Art Association, Ringwood Manor Association of The Arts, and the National Art Education Association. A certified teacher, she is currently teaching classes through The WMAA, and sponsored by The Parks And Recreation Department of West Milford.
Jill Dunlop is always trying to find new ways to introduce children to art, and is often inspired by her four children. ‘When a child discovers the magic of mixing their own colors and turns it into a painting I am truly moved.”
Jennifer Leonard
In Jennifer Leonard’s work, one can see her love for nature, the outdoors, animals and people shining throughout. Using mixed media in several of her works, she combines form, textures and color that represent this love as her work takes the viewer by cheerful surprise. The understanding between the viewer and the emotional content of her work is by far interpretation at its excellence.
Using graphite on paper in “Wyoming Pasture”, Leonard enhances the contrast of a horse’s head. She observes the timeless beauty of black and white, empowering the subject and letting the viewer in on it’s presence. The reflective surfaces reveal the strength of the animal.
Over the years, Leonard has studied pencil, watercolor and natural form. Presently a member of the West Milford Artists Association, she currently displays her work at the WMAA Gallery. Her work has been shown at the Saddle River Valley Cultural Center and at the Upper Saddle River Library.
Besides being immersed in her artwork, Jennifer Leonard is embarking on a most naturally prolific creation – she is due to have a third child. She resides in West Milford with her husband and family.
Mike Rosenberg
Sometimes functional but always sculptural, Mike Rosenberg’s work in the ceramic medium, either wheel thrown or hand-built, reveals his discovery of what this material can do. “I have been intrigued and challenged by ceramics, and the freedom to create. It is with great respect that I share a material that is from the earth.”
Introduced to ceramics by his then 9 year old daughter, clay made that direct impression where artist and material connect. Fixated on creating with this medium, the possibilities and his expertise, “With a background of electrical construction, hockey, art and music it is no wonder I spend most of my time covered in mud.”
Mike Rosenberg resides in Butler, and member of The West Milford Artists Association, is a NJ State Licensed Electrical Contractor. To see more of his work, please visit his web site, www.potterydog.net. "My journey continues every time I open the studio door.”
